Print Making: “Cutting AWAY from the Body!”
Debra Riffe
Course Description:
Cut Away from the Body! Away from the Body! Using simple gouges, participants will explore one of the oldest traditions in art: the use of line to depict an image and express an idea. Demonstrations will include the interplay of textural illusions, line weight, black silhouette and white silhouette, tool use and safe carving methods. Each student will be given an image that they will reduce to a simple line composition before cutting the block; or, a student may bring an image of choice. All are encouraged to experiment while learning the basics of design and proper cutting technique. We will work with water-based ink and pull prints by hand. All levels are welcome; no prior art experience is necessary.
