Sewing: “The Sewing Depot: Basic Sewing
Steps for the DYI Beginner”
Gay Broad

Course Description:
This class will help provide a great foundation for building your sewing future. Learn the tools of sewing (i.e. machine operation, needles and pins), how to read and cut a pattern, construct a garment (comfy pajama pants) and make a pillow from design to form to a custom cover. A cornerstone of sewing skills for many crafts, home accessories, gifts, personal clothing and costume construction.

Bio:
Gay Broad is a recently retired home school Mom who loves to teach. She also loves to sew and create and to help others become proficient with their sewing skills. Gay recently started her own giant puppet business with the creation and production of a bookmark puppet and a bookworm puppet to be marketed for reading readiness programs. For the past three years Gay has worked with the Randolph High School Theater Department doing costume construction for their plays. She also mentors RHS’s theater techies who want to know more about costume design, building and fitting. As volunteers with Fantasy Playhouse Children's Theater and Huntsville Community Chorus Association, Gay and her husband, Lynn, serve as Board members. You'll find her volunteering for productions with Fantasy, HCCA, Renaissance Theatre, Theatre Huntsville and she has also helped with Ars Nova and Ovation Arts. This past year Gay was the head costumer for "The Rocky Horror Show" (RT), "Twinderella" (FPH), and "Man of La Mancha" (RT). She enjoys the variety of plays, directors and actors - making each new project a learning experience.

Extra supplies fee: $20. Please Bring your own sewing machine. If you do not have one, let us know and we can possibly let you borrow one.
