Spinning: “So You Want to Spin a Bunny”
Nancy Barnett
Course Description:
Have you always wanted to spin Angora, but have been afraid to take the plunge? Here’s your chance to master the art of spinning Angora rabbit wool. You will learn to spin English, French, German and Satin varieties and compare the differences. You will learn how to extend this “precious” fiber and still have the Angora look and feel without breaking the bank. Emphasis will be on spinning the wool, but a short discussion of raising the Angora, grooming and taking care of it will also be presented (using a live bunny which will be given away to an interested participant at the end of the class).
Bio:
Nancy Barnett lives in the Missouri Ozarks and has been spinning and raising sheep for 23 years and Angora rabbits for 20 years. Nancy raises Shetland and Border Leicester Sheep, English, French, and German Angora rabbits and sells breeding stock, wool, and processed rovings. She is a poplar teacher at several Missouri fiber events throughout the year, The Fiber Event at Greencastle, IN and Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival in Jefferson, WI. She is the winner of two Sustainable Agriculture Grants, one of which is for her Angora/wool natural fiber socks. She lives with her husband, Bill, in a 1935 rock school house constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
