Storytelling: “Tell Your Own Story ”
Jim Pfitzer
Course Description:
Everybody has stories to tell and Tennessee storyteller Jim Pfitzer has just the tools to bring them out of you! Using fun, group activities we will mine our lives for the special moments from which memorable stories emerge. Then, following classic fairytale and hero’s journey models, Jim will help to draw out and shape our personal tales. By the end of the week, each participant will be telling his/her own story! Jim will use his own stories to illustrate points and inspire his students. As stories emerge, each participant will get encouraging feedback and guidance from Jim and have opportunities to assist one another as we learn to “forget the words and remember the story” and to “not let the facts get in the way of the truth.” Along with fun group time, sessions will include solo time to write, pace, ponder, or mumble
Bio:
Jim Pfitzer grew up in the Appalachian foothills of East Tennessee near Chattanooga and many of his stories spring from that Tennessee River Valley. But his tales don't stop there. His wanderings have taken him from the bottom of Grand Canyon to the top of the Grand Tetons, from California Bigfoot country to the wild Snake River and every stop along the way provides fuel for his writings. Whether recalling efforts to raise an owl in his bedroom, sharing a close encounter with a black bear in the redwoods or chasing the Dread Mock Turtle on the banks of Possum Creek, Jim's storytelling is reminiscent of a simpler time. Close your eyes and you can almost smell the magnolia blossoms on the breeze and feel the wooden front porch beneath your feet.
