Our Curriculum
| Experiential classes help students to better understand the natural world, leading them to a sense of responsibility for it. Focused on basic ecological concepts, the curriculum is hands-on and minds-on, giving students the greatest opportunity to learn about themselves and their environment. Some topics covered include: Forest Communities, Map and Compass, Water Ecology, Group Dynamics, Canoeing and Earth Science. |

More Than a Walk in the Woods....
| One student acts out one part of the tree, the heartwood. She stands tall, flexes her muscles and makes the sound of a beating heart. |
Other students gather around her, each taking on a role (leaves, roots, vascular tissues and other parts of the tree). Together, amidst much laughter, the students form a complete “tree,” alive with action. |
|
| Now when they see a 100-foot hemlock tree, they see the tree as a living functioning organism. |
Our Staff
Caring, professional instructors lead all of the activities. Each enthusiastic instructor has a college degree and is trained in our child-centered approach to education. To view the biographies of our staff, . |

Our Facilities
| Camp McDowell ecompasses over 1100 acres of forests, waterfalls, and creeks, much of it in an undisturbed natural state. This incredible natural resource is our classroom. In addition we have a full ropes course and group initiatives elements to challenge and promote cooperation within your group. |
