Course Description:
In this intermediate- to advanced-level class you will learn to create solos beginning with the melody
, improvising within the realm of good taste, warm-up and practice techniques, blending Scruggs, melodic, and string styles, and whatever else we have time for!

Students should have experience in Bluegrass jams (be able to play along with songs they know and the ability to “take a shot” at a song they don’t know). Students should be proficient in Scruggs-style playing and familiar with melodic and single-string styles (although proficiency is not required).

Extra supplies fee: none

Please bring: Students should bring their banjos, picks, capo, and some extra strings (just in case). A notebook or portable recorder would also be a good idea. Video and audio recording in this class is permitted as long as it doesn’t get in the way of anyone else’s enjoyment of the class.
