Fiddling for Bluegrass and Other Sports
Barbara Lamb

Bio:
Barbara Lamb grew up in Seattle, Washington where she learned to play fiddle, first cutting her bow hair on Scandinavian dance tunes. She joined a bluegrass band when she was 15 after winning the state and regional junior fiddling championships. She co-founded the yodeling cowgirl band, Ranch Romance, in the late 80s and toured as k.d.lang's opening act for nearly a year. She has recorded five records for Sugar Hill Records and five records for Lots of Coffee Records. For more information go to her website at:
Course Description:
Here are some of the topics I like to cover.
1. How to play in a band and have everyone like you at the end of the day - You know lots of tunes from start to finish but now what? I will cover the "rules" for backing up a vocalist, backing up another
instrumentalist (mandolin vs. banjo, for instance) and good stage presence.
2. Three or four really, really good licks to use anywhere.
3. One really good fiddle solo for a classic bluegrass song.
4. Left hand finger exercises for better playing.
5. Tune requests to be recorded for picking apart after you go home.
Extra supplies fee: none
Class Prerequisites: This is an intermediate and advanced-level workshop. Students should know how to play several tunes up to tempo, having a pretty good grip on how to physically play the fiddle.
Please Bring: your fiddle and a recording device if you'd like.
