CABIN COUNSELORS (MALE AND FEMALE) JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cabin Counselor is primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of the young people in his/her cabin. Cabin Counselors are responsible to the Head Counselor and to the SCC.

Specific duties of the Cabin Counselor include:

  • encourage campers to become an integral part of the community
  • be sensitive to the camper’s individual needs (social, emotional, physical, and spiritual)
  • give each camper individual attention
  • taking responsibility for his/her own health
  • maintain a clean cabin throughout the session and thoroughly clean cabin and bathrooms at the close of each session
  • report needed repairs to maintenance staff
  • participate in and supervise all camper activities

The Cabin Counselor needs to be able to:

  • be a team player who is aware of what is going on around her/him and make decisions which are helpful and productive to the larger community
  • know when to follow and when to lead
  • be sensitive to the needs of campers and attend to them
  • maintain a high level of enthusiasm and energy
  • be patient, understanding and loving to all campers and staff
  • be able to work with a wide range of ages
  • maintain a good sense of humor
  • be flexible
