CABIN COUNSELORS (MALE AND FEMALE) JOB DESCRIPTION
The Cabin Counselor is primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of the young people in his/her cabin. Cabin Counselors are responsible to the Head Counselor and to the SCC.
Specific duties of the Cabin Counselor include:
- encourage campers to become an integral part of the community
- be sensitive to the camper’s individual needs (social, emotional, physical, and spiritual)
- give each camper individual attention
- taking responsibility for his/her own health
- maintain a clean cabin throughout the session and thoroughly clean cabin and bathrooms at the close of each session
- report needed repairs to maintenance staff
- participate in and supervise all camper activities
The Cabin Counselor needs to be able to:
- be a team player who is aware of what is going on around her/him and make decisions which are helpful and productive to the larger community
- know when to follow and when to lead
- be sensitive to the needs of campers and attend to them
- maintain a high level of enthusiasm and energy
- be patient, understanding and loving to all campers and staff
- be able to work with a wide range of ages
- maintain a good sense of humor
- be flexible
